Anime songs are just amazing. What’s so special about anime songs? They are so unique compared to the rest of the songs in the world. Here was this guy all the way from Germany, Animenz. It’s definitely a great privilege to witness the LIVE performance of Animenz with a massive 34 songs being played in a 2 hours solo piano concert.
It all began with No Game No Life, an anime which was only released in Spring 2014. A soft introduction from the start and it rocks the heart of the audience at the allegro of the song. Then, immediately after the song, 2 songs from Sword Art Online (SAO) are being played, Crossing Field & Swordland. He connected these 2 songs in a surprising manner and as an otaku, it reminded you of the most epic scene in SAO. The crowd continued to cheer, 2 songs from Attack on Titan were played and it was really impressive, considering the anime being the Top Anime of the year in 2013. Followed by 2 songs from Magical Girl Madoka Magica & 2 songs from Kill la Kill where he asked the crowd to shout “Don’t lose your way!”. That marked the first theme of the performance of “battlefield”.
A changed of the theme to a sentimental one, he started off with the highly popular song from Clannad After Story, Toki wo Kizamu Uta. It was amazing and it made me appreciate the song a lot compared to the first time I heard of it. Continued with Secret Base from Ano Hana, then Sakura Nagashi from Evangelion 3.0 which was one of Animenz super favourite! Then a final touch on Angel Beats, My Soul, Your Beats! with Ichiban no Takeramono, a two in one package.
The main theme from Laputa: Castle in the Sky was so sweet, followed on by Inochi no Namae from Spirited Away. The anime that has touched many hearts whether be otaku or not & the Merry Go Round of Life from Howl’s Moving Castle which puts the crowd into a Waltz (dancing) mode. Then it followed by a 15 minutes break where everyone gets to cool themselves down after having to absorb so many anime songs at one go.
The cheers rocketed after the break, everyone wants to be their best! A surprising pick by Animenz from Pokemon. It brought back memories, wonderful childhood memories with the crowd chanting “Pokemon, gotta catch’em all!”. With the cheers going stronger, a slow version of Butterfly from Digimon Adventures was played, after all, the anime that serves as a key to many, especially Animenz to fall in love with anime. Followed on by We Are! from One Piece and the blast just kept continue on with Colours from Code Geass. Followed by God Knows, you know what Anime it is from, the bloom of Moe-ness back in 2005. It came entangled with Kimi no Shiranai Monogatari from Bakemonogatari, a recent piece from Animenz. Then it went back To The Beginning from Fate/Zero.
A sudden change in mood where Animenz went on with a bold move on the blockbusters series starting with only my rail gun from A Certain Scientific Railgun, BOOM! as if rockets were blasted here and there followed on by Uso from Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, another Animenz favourite piece. After that the atmosphere quiet down a bit as there are a few songs continued with Splash Free! from Free and Daisy from Kyoukai no Kanata.
With a slight delay of pause that he caught us in a big surprise with another music that he only learnt for a day, just with a higher tone of the song as he Starts & Dash, Love Live. Impressive play and amazing, especially loved by many.
Before everyone realized, it was already at the final moment. Animenz began to share about the feelings that he had put in for anime music, the songs where he puts in emotion, his feelings which he pulled off with 3 songs from Guilty Crown. Bios, a bouncy mode followed by Euterpe, something like a second movement sonata, slow and graceful & lastly My Dearest which is also the pinnacle of the transcribing activity of 18 years piano experience by Animenz. As if the wings were opened up and dashing right to the stars.
The crowds couldn’t let him go and neither does Animenz, as if the night were meant for an eternal pleasure for his fans as he swayed the audiences with a special song from Touhou, Bad Apple. After that, he left the stage with the crowd chanting, “Encore, encore!”. The dire of never-ending thirst of quench from the audiences lit and ignite a splinter of Animenz’s desire to thrust the night to a memorable event that anyone could’ve possessed as he retorted it with, “One more SONG, it’s FREE!”. He then, rocks the crowd with his favourite Butterfly in Rock rendition from Digimon which marked the grand ending of the concert.
